The Velodyne is on the 192.168.1.201 domain. You need your wifi to be on a different subnet like 192.168.0.XX or 10.0.0.XX. We had the same issue. It is in the Velodyne manual but not on the ROS Wiki.

You can also change the IP of the LiDAR if you can't modify the wifi network. Just be sure the ethernet port is assigned the same subnet.
