This is a mostly-salvage project, and I've got an old Roomba 531 working really well. I have not yet got my Kinect wired to the thing. I'm using a genuine iRobot SCI/DIN-to-USB serial cable, so to get to the unregulated power from the DIN connector I'll need to do some slicing. My current idea is to cut up a separate DIN cable to use as an extender and just splice into the 12V and GND wires there. Are there any known/better ideas?

Take a look at Asus Xtion, it is USB powered only.

I appreciate the advice, but a Xtion really isn't in the budget for this project unless I could find one for under $25.
