small, cheap sensor to get a LaserScan message

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get a LaserScan message in order to use the navigation stack on a Erlecopter drone. I know there is several way to get a Laserscan message (for instance lidar, or by converting a stereo camera signal into laser scan), but in your opinion, what is the best cheapest and easy way to get this message (using a kinect on a drone seems difficile...)

Thanks !

Don't know if it will meet your requirements, but look up the Neato Lidar. It provides 360 degree scans for about $150 with a controller. https://www.getsurreal.com/product/xv... Don't know if that is small/light enough for your drone but maybe. It's easy to use with ROS.

Hi Billy ! thanks for you comment ! I will check in the next day if the size and the weight will fit on a drone. Concerning the lidar : have you ever used it ? after some research, i found a driver for the lidar xv_11. http://wiki.ros.org/xv_11_laser_driv Is this driver compatible with it? thanks!

That driver will work with Jade for sure. That is what I use. I do not remember making any changes to make it work.

I would suggest Tara Stereo camera: https://github.com/dilipkumar25/see3cam That suit your needs.

Have you used this camera to get a laser scan? It looks nice and price not bad, but it doesn't natively have depth output. Was it difficult to get depthscan output from other ROS node? Were you able to get depth beyond 3 meters?

I haven't tested Tara camera in laser scan. I have tested the Tara camera ROS distribution (Jade) by using this reference link. https://www.e-consystems.com/Articles... I don't have tried depth range beyond 3 meters. but Tara support Depth ranges from 50cm to 300cm.
