working with a gazebo simulated robot arm. I am sending torque signals to the arm and am receiving positional data from the arm, can give and receive these same signals with a servo motor? specifically the DYNAMIXEL XL430-W250-T ?

Sorry, I misread your question. I do beleive the Dynamixel servos can provide position feedback. They are "intelligent" and support two-way communication.

--Original answer:

I assume we are talking about cheap(ish) hobby servos? They don't provide feedback. They are kind of dumb. You tell them where to move and then you cross your fingers and hope. If you need position feedback, you will need a separate sensor. That being said, there are people that have modified their servos to tap into the potentiometer that the servo itself is using to know the position.
