can you just post the link of the tutorial you followed to install ROS on the RaspberryPi? So we can look up which packages of ROS are available.

You'll need to verify that you have the necessary kernel drivers and udev rules installed on the RaspberryPi3.

Please be more precise! Which version of the kinect you are using? Kinect v1 (Xbox 360) oder Kinect v2 (Xbox One)? Kinect v2 works only with USB 3.0. The Raspberry Pi 3 has only USB2.0 ports. Keep that in mind when using this configuration.

Which install for raspberry pi did you use? If it was ROS-Comm then it doesn't have a lot of the simulation tools that the Full-Desktop version has. This could be the reason for the problem, but since I haven't tried this personally I can't be sure how to solve it. One suggestion is to download the dependencies separately; also install rviz (I don't think it would've been downloaded).

Sorry, I'm not quite sure beyond this point. rviz should get installed with some patches. Try searching more on that, I think that's the only way your freenect with work.

I tried to get the Kinect working on my Pi some time back and gave up. The motor etc worked but is was a total faff.

I would suggest switching to an XTION - aside from driver set up it works without issue
